Richard Vaudrey is a passionate and sought after teacher having the rare ability to teach high level classical technique and repertoire, as well as cutting edge new music and popular cello style/technique.  This gives Richard his greatest asset as a teacher; the ability to see what will inspire and interest each individual student. “Allowing students to play music they are inspired by, from any genre is the fastest way to rapid improvement, not only as a cellist but as an artist.  So often I’ve had cellists come to me disillusioned by stale repertoire and exercises - with some slight redirection;  very quickly they are far beyond the where they’d imagined they could be, once again inspired by this great instrument and making their own music.

Richard is also one of very few teachers mentoring and teaching methods for singing and playing the cello. Richard is at the forefront of this burgeoning movement of singer songwriter cellists and is extremely passionate about its development. It’s such a wonderfully unique process with so many avenues still to be explored.

Richard has held positions as Adjunct Professor of Cello at the University of Western Connecticut, Teaching Assistant to The Emerson String Quartet at SUNY Stony Brook, New York and is currently Head of Instrumental and Ensemble Music at Peninsula Grammar, Victoria Australia.  Richard is also a regular Education Consultant and Presenter for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
